Orthogonal view of the level I'm working on
I converted from coffee to tea a couple months ago and i'm all-in. I'm a tea guy now. I'm ordering the good stuff from china and started a tea cake collection. I'm planning family trips to yunnan province. I'm awaiting the first flush harvest from wazuka. I know gongfu. I'm all-in on this tea stuff
things are occuring
I downloaded Bryce 4 the other day and have had a blast tinkering with it. It's rly easy to get into and itches this specific part of my brain only this type of 90s CGI can reach. I wish I had known about it back in like highschool because I would've made a million renders with it for diff projects.
Ottawa is melting and under all that snow was videogames...!

Very tough last two weeks but I think itβs smooth sailing ahead, game dev-wise. Hoping to to post more progress updates soon
i stole the thing from etrian odyssey and touhou labyrinth where it shows your chance of an encounter in the top right so you have some info to prepare yourself maybe that will make it more palatable to people who are anti random encounter
a very old looking videogame, it shows a hexmap made out of ascii lines and blocky buildings. there's like charts for all the characters hitpoints and status, and the player has highlighted a square with a convenience store in it.
since i keep forgetting. this is the game i'm making. it's coming along pretty good i think. it has a hexmap, with side-scrolling turn-based battles and encounters.
A deadly encounter on the streets of 21st Century Kyoto in the wake of devastation from an earthquake that also unleashed a horde of demons - and magic back into the world.
A point-and-click and RPG hybrid that received an English translation in 2019.

Had to try making one myself

Hello. For my newsletter, I wrote an essay about the compilation that got me into Japanese new wave. Tokyo Mobile Music is an imperfect package with a spotty history surrounding it, so I went ahead and filled in the gaps and wrote some liner notes for you myself.

Would you believe me, if I told you there was 0.0 simulated lighting in this scene? Only Vertex Painting.

Finding the first hostage in a Rescue mission. The scout peeked through the door and retreated, which is why we can see the hostage and their kidnapper currently not in the line of sight.
Rescue missions are subtly different. With multiple hostages to find, some of whom have useful skills, you can recruit the hostages themselves to help. You also score per hostage freed. cyningstan.itch.io/star-cadre-c... #starcadre #ibmpc #msdos #cga
Obsessed with these (Bryce?) renders from Total Annihilation
Absolutely crucial drpg mechanic: the one-way door
I still come across a few artifacts of the old drpg now and then, like this switch model. It reminds me of that game and makes me excited to get back to it once this one is done. The theme of that one will be very different but mechanically it will build on what I'm currently making
Using my map -> 3d space conversion tool to overwrite an existing map gives me these amazingly haunted corporate nightmare spaces to explore
Less Pixels, More Texture.
I think I've implemented all that's needed to build the maps I've drawn so far. I have 6 floors, up to a first boss. Looking forward to building this out and playtesting
I'm continuously glad I decided to pause my bigger drpg project and make this smaller one first so I can get the basics down, because even just the basics are so much effort
recorded a Windows 95 full disk defrag to soothe your timeline.
Okay it can glow but just a little bit
A nice floating icon that changes depending on the item to pick up? sorry no here's a spinning cube with locked_door.material on it
Do you ever quickly throw together a placeholder, take one look at it in game and sigh because you realize it's probably going to be final? Just did that with this item pickup thing
Escape from Terror City is 60% off this week on Steam!

This week was a write-off for game dev but itβs only made me more determined to finish this game
Tonight, Ottawa!!
When this soundtrack is done Iβll be selling several pieces of hardware that I donβt use. As much as I like hardware, Iβm settling into an efficient and satisfying computer-based workflow that doesnβt call for as much gear as I have
