Looks great! Clean and fast.
Having suffered the pain of a tooth infection I can unequivocally say that this man died in absolute agony. The type of nerve pain that will have you screaming and wondering quite rightly if youβve gone insane
This man was tortured through neglect, and everyone involved is an irredeemable monster

All part of the plan.
π¨ 86 organisations are calling for Prime Minister Keir Starmer to increase, not cut, UK climate finance π·
Cutting climate finance would be a massive betrayal of countries and communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis and of this governmentβs manifesto commitments to be a climate leader.
Thanks for this! Absolutely wild!
I am also looking at it from the perspective of decarbonisation. If both new gas and new renewables are too expensive to build, then the transition stalls, which benefits existing FF companies.
That seems rather high. UK govt has them at ~$1000/kW in 2024. There has been some cost inflation but 3x seems surprising to me. This brings the capex/kW on par with wind and higher than solar but as you say capacity factors are quite different. assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/696616...

As conflict in the Middle East escalates, civilians pay the highest price as homes, safety & livelihoods are hit.
Fossil gas markets are exposed to conflict, chokepoints & bidding wars.
Energy security comes from renewables & clean flexibility, not fossil gas.
π’Time to get off the gas rollercoaster.
Yes, but clean energy is much more capex heavy than FFs. And we don't need to deploy a bunch of new fossil fuel infra but we do need to deploy a bunch of new clean infra. So anything that slows down investment is bad for clean energy deployment and good for fossil fuels.
What is the purpose of an OBR analysis that is a) out of date at the time of release (re: gas prices) and b) ignorant of the broader changes in society?
Expecting unemployment to peak at 5.3% and decline to 2030 when LLMs are being rolled out is nonsensical.

Just last week the German government gutted the heating law which was supposed to drive a transition away from gas.
The timing could not have been worse: Gas prices are up 50% today and this crisis could worsen significantly. This will happen again and again and the consumer pays the price.
Excellent piece. We should be equally critical of the Trump regime, the Iranian regime and the Netanyahu regime, all of whom have committed war crimes. There is no world in which the Iranian regimes comes out with any moral superiority after it massacred tens of thousands of its own kids.
Once again, we did not invent concepts like international law and rules of engagement because weβre woke pansy wimps
We developed them because we learned the very worst way, that even the strongest are less safe without them

Thereβs so much more to spatial downscaling today than classic LM or kriging. In my new blog post, I show how flexible and powerful GAMs can be for this task. #rstats #dataviz

This is great, thanks for the ideas!
UK government proving just how weak and incapable they have become. Instead of taxing wealth and taking on the tech industry, they would prefer to let the world burn.
