For most of my journalism career, pardons were considered criminal justice or human interest stories.
Now, thanks to Trump's transactional approach, they're part of the lobbying & influence beat.
A look behind the scenes of the @nytimes.com's clemency coverage:
WAPO: “.. Since the war began Saturday, Russia has passed Iran the locations of U.S. military assets, including warships and aircraft, said the three officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the matter’s sensitivity.”

I think one of the most staggering industry shifts in my 16 years as a tech reporter is that it’s not become a question of “should our product help the government kill and/or surveil people?” but “to what extent?”

He lied about a pandemic that killed 1 million Americans. He won’t hesitate to keep lying about the Mideast war he started.

I don’t think Netanyahu has that much pull over the Kurds. Less sure about Trump.
Plus Kurds and Iranian proxies on the same side of the IS problem. Could be an issue if Trump’s buddy in Syria drops the ball.
Why would Kurds want to do this.
Not sure how that benefits Kurds given the resurgence of ISIS.
Perhaps unrelated, but it doesn’t look great that the breaking point came days before Trump attacked Iran.

Honestly, I am pretty frustrated that there isn't more discussion, particularly on the right (including the neo-con right) about the *divergence* of US and Israeli interests here.
A democratic Iran, while not a friend, would be a victory for the USA and long-term probably a catastrophe for Israel.
“After joining Speaker Johnson”
Guess which party Speaker Johnson leads.
Hard to imagine any other military partner making such a statement to the U.S.

Absolutely no one believes this. Not even Lindsey.
It depends how we define power, right? Israel is involved in U.S. domestic politics in a way that no other nation would dare. There’s an absence of the kind of boundaries that govern other alliances.

Israel is recognized as a sovereign state under the UN Charter, and has the same rights and responsibilities as as other recognized states.
But not those aimed at the U.S. embassy it seems.
While he is not responsible for the WMD lie, he was a full partner in the campaign to promote it.
Netanyahu to the U.S. Congress, 2002: "If you take out Saddam, Saddam's regime, I guarantee you that it will have enormous positive reverberations on the region."
Spotted another girl’s school perhaps.
Israel is the only country whose prime minister can stand on the floor of the U.S. congress and attack the sitting U.S. president. Saw them do it to both Biden and Obama.
