Excellent from Ian Dunt.
With hopes that you enjoy Australia and can get back eventually

They've already stopped LNG production and have said they won't restart until cessation of hostilities - which is fair given that they didn't bomb their own facility.

That's frankly terrifying ... almost as much as what is happening.

Even before you consider the copyright implications.

Have you been in one of the boozers or booze shops over there - no risk of running out

If they want to make money being an influencer they have to register and licence a business - just like you would have to be be a writer there, or a plumber, or anything else.
Criticism of the regime in public is an offence - agreed.
Anything by Detained in Dubai is to be viewed cautiously

The few people I know who will voice anti-immigrant sentiment are All "they get something I don't" types. They can listen to reasoned argument, but govts don't seem to try.
These plans will do nothing to further integration. They will force people to remain "other".

I didn't encounter it at all until I had friends who were teachers and friends with smalls, which was quite late in life.
I pity the parents - and some of the kids

Keir Starmer defends Iran response as Kemi Badenoch calls for more action It comes after Trump criticised the PM for refusing to allow the use of UK bases in the initial US-Israel strikes.

He has, as far as I am aware.

Was the leader of Newham Council till about 2018. Originally labour but got deselected - IIRC for going on about Balkanisation of England and the like.

Do you know, I'd forgotten about Robin Wales.
Ah well, he'll only be news for today.

Thanks for the heads up on these. Just gave mine it's first try. Egg 1 perfect. Egg 2, opened after egg 1 eaten, just a tiny bit over but that is to be expected.

There also - in my limited experience - seems to be a correlation of some kind between the complexity of the supplier form and the length of time it takes any invoice to be paid.

Oh I wish you wouldn't be right about things. But yes, this genie is well and truly out of its bottle

It can be a pain - see other reply. We were UK tax resident the whole time we were overseas because we had a property in the UK. Others had cut all ties.
I think it makes work for accountants, but I guess they need jobs too. [Trying a positivie spin on life today]

Oh, and yes, dual taxation can be a right pain.

My reading of that article is that the people who have registered are mostly either tourists or transit passengers - and they probably do want to get either home or where they were going.

No, maybe not quite that ... and nor are my friends in the Gulf. But they will stay if they can because it's their home

03.03.2026 17:41 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

Because it's their home. They live there.
Just like the Ukrainians live in Ukraine and the Iranians live in Iran ... I could go on

Yeah, so we won't nuke them.

Oh yes, I don't really understand the four days in a 5* hotel and never go out thing, but some people seem to. Living there is more like living there - some good, some bad.

03.03.2026 15:45 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

Please don't. I have good friends living there - and they are not at all like that guy.
Also, there's a reason the Gulf has always been a global travel hub. Nuking it would make getting around a tad difficult for anyone left on the planet

I would disagree. I lived in Dubai twice, for about a year each time. I prefer Abu Dhabi, but that's me.
Most folks aren't 'influencer' types. Like living in or adjacent to any city, it depends on what you make of it. Plenty of choice.
And seeing the bling bits is fun for a day or so.

I'm sure they will get flights running as fast as is safe. Very well run airlines, both of them

If it makes you giggle, that's a good thing.
They can afford to leave if they want to, I suspect. ATM she's enjoying the 'pity me' posting.
